Ex-policeman charged with stealing $100K in shoes

A former Fairfield police officer was charged yesterday with stealing $100,000 worth of shoes from the athletic shops where he worked under one of his closest friends, police and store employees said.
Police charged Gregory Madden, 40, of 113 Paul Place in Fairfield, with first-degree larceny after an investigation showed Madden stole more than 900 pairs of sneakers from Athletic Shoe Factory stores in New Canaan, Fairfield and Westport and sold them on the auction Web site eBay.com, Lt. James George said.
